Coastal village on the Jaffna Lagoon

Kilaly is a lagoon-side village in the Pachchilaipalli region of Kilinochchi District, officially recorded as GN Division KN/95. Located near Muhamalai, Vempodukerny, Ittavil, Pallai, and the Jaffna Lagoon, it has a distinct identity shaped by fishing, boats, mudflats, shallow waters, and coastal ecology.

During the civil war, Kilaly became historically significant as part of the dangerous lagoon-crossing route between Jaffna and the mainland, and the 1993 Kilaly/Jaffna Lagoon massacre remains a painful civilian memory connected to this place.

Today, Kilaly stands as a symbol of lagoon heritage, wartime endurance, and the resilient rebuilding of village life in Pachchilaipalli.
