Pallai Town is the central service town of the Pachchilaipalli region in Kilinochchi District, officially recorded as GN Division KN/87. Located on the A9 Kandy–Jaffna Highway and served by the Northern railway line, Pallai connects the surrounding villages of Pachchilaipalli with Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Elephant Pass, and the rest of Sri Lanka.
The town has a long community history, including colonial-era Christian institutions such as St. Andrew’s Church, and it became especially important during the civil war because of its location near the Elephant Pass corridor.
After decades of disruption, the reopening of Pallai Railway Station in 2014 marked a major step in post-war reconnection, making Pallai a symbol of access, recovery, education, trade, and resilience for the wider Pachchilaipalli community.
